In 1961 the Audax Club Parisien created an honorific for those randonneurs having done 5000 KM in BRM events. This honorific is called the Randonneur 5000.

Those randonneurs qualifying for the title can request a commemorative medal, engraved with their name and the year. The year used is that of their last qualifying event.

Qualifying: Candidates for the Randonneur 5000 must successfully complete within a four year period the following: (Note: the four year period is determined, to the day, from the date of the first qualifying event.)

  • the full BRM series, 200, 300, 400, 600, and 1000 KM
  • a Paris-Brest-Paris Randonneurs
  • and a Flèche Vélocio (with at least three machines at the start, as well as, the finish).

The 5000 KM must consist solely of the following types of events:

  • Flèches de France done on one of the established routes and done in the gold or silver categories. The Flèche de Dieppe is not acceptable since it is less than 200 KM.
  • Brevets de Randonneurs Mondiaux.

Non French randonneurs may use a Flèche sanctioned by the ACP and organized in accordance with the rules for the Flèche Vélocio to fulfill the Flèche Vélocio requirement.

Requests: To receive the Randonneur 5000 medal, the randonneur must submit a Randonneur 5000 request form before September 15, except for PBP years when the ACP does not accept any R5000 applications due to their workload. The form must be filled out correctly and completely and must list all the verification numbers of the brevets being used for qualification. For BRM/RM events not listed on the RUSA web site, attach copies (both sides) of original Brevet cards. US BRM event results and ACP homologation numbers/brevet certificate numbers can be found in the results section of the RUSA website. Send a printout with the qualifying events highlighted with the medal application.
